My Students
I teach ESL and most of my students are new or newer to America. I love that they're excited to learn all about our custom and culture. Most of my students are from Latin America. They come from warmer climates and only bring with them what they can fit in a suitcase on the airplane.
The colder climate is new to them. Often they don't have enough warm clothes. Their parents are new to America and don't have a lot of money but they're working to give their families a better life.
My Project
A lot of the families of my students have several children and live paycheck to paycheck. That means they don’t have an extra $40 to $80 dollars to spend on winter snow boots for their children. The majority of my students live close to the school and are required to walk to school instead of riding a bus. When the weather is bad, they often arrive at school with wet feet. Spending the whole day at school with wet shoes, socks, and feet is distracting and uncomfortable. Please donate snow boots and socks so they can concentrate on learning. Thank you!
