My Students

I am a Resource Specialist Teacher at our school. We are a Title I school, meaning that more than three-quarters of the students in our school come from low‑income households. Besides autism, some of my students also have anxiety, ADHD and specific learning disabilities. However, despite their disabilities, they always come to school with smiles on their faces.

My students' smiles bring joy to my life and they make my days more enjoyable.

My students are in the general education core curriculum. This workload is sometimes difficult for them, and it requires me to constantly think of ways to help them stay focused and engaged so that they can be successful in the classroom. My students love to learn and I always encourage them to try their best.

My Project

According to Maslow's Theory of Human Motivation, there is a hierarchy of needs that humans need to meet to be able to reach one's full potential. At the bottom of this hierarchy is the "physiological" needs. Some of these needs include health, food, water, sleep, and clothes. When we have students at school that cannot reach their full potential and there is something we can do to help, then I believe that we must act to help meet that need for the child. I do my best to provide what I can like food and water so that their hunger does not impede their learning. However, there is another need that I feel we can provide for them if we work together to fund this project.

During the winter, some of my students come to school without the appropriate clothes to keep them warm.

When a student is cold, they can't focus on their work and miss out on the academic instruction. This project would allow me to start a school closet where students in need can obtain a warm jacket or sweater. I want to create this closet so that we are able to meet our student's needs. With your help, we can make sure that our students are always warm and ready to learn!
