My students need winter hats and gloves to help keep them warm during our cold winter months. They also need healthy snacks to fuel their bodies to help them stay focused on their learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is located in a high poverty urban area and students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. I have a diverse group of learners where deaf, blind and/or learning disabled students are included with typical students.
Despite any hardships they may face outside of school, my students come to school ready to learn, and eager to experience new things.
I am looking for exciting ways to provide my students with differentiated, creative experiences that can help them make meaningful connections to their learning.
My Project
When the cold winter months settle in, student attendance in school sometimes becomes a struggle. Many students do not have appropriate winter clothing to ensure they stay safe and warm while traveling to and from school, therefore, some students end-up missing school.
When students are not in school, they miss out on classroom lessons and tend to fall behind in their education.
It is my hope that by providing students with hats and gloves, students will have that added motivation to take on the cold and come to school. Once at school, healthy snacks will help students keep their bellies full and their minds focused while they are learning.
