This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach Kindergarten in a public rural community school in Louisiana. Our school is a Pre-K through 8th-grade school that has an enrollment of over 800 students. We are also a Leader In Me School making our students be great leaders.
My Kindergartners come to school each day full of excitement and ready to learn, read, and draw all the pictures they possibly can.
Most of our students come from great families that help out as much as they can.
My Project
Having a spacious rug for my students to sit on when we do our circle time throughout our day will make stay focused on the lessons. Without this rug, they tend to continue to move around and fuss about others being in "their spots". This rug will give each of them a specific area to stay in. There are enough squares for each of my students to sit in.
This rug will also help keep my students focused more because it will be warmer than sitting on the cold floor during the winter months.
Right now, the ones who can not fit on my small rug are having to sit on their jackets.
