Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is housed within a public elementary school that is located in an urban school district. The student body is comprised of over a 93.9% Hispanic population which contributes to many of my students being Second Language Learners. Over 90.2% of my students come from low-income households and receive free meals through the school district.
My students are extremely inquisitive and eager to explore materials and concepts that will help them learn about the world of art in their daily lives.
They need the basic and essential items like paper to do this on an everyday basis. The classroom is comprised of 3 and 4-year-old preschool students who work together to help each other learn and grow. I have two students who are 3-years-old and the rest are four-years-old. The class is in session seven hours a day. Four students have behavior issues that present challenges to their learning. Three students have speech issues. It is for the above reasons that this project would be of great help in providing a way to enrich their creativity, provide an outlet to express themselves, and foster positive conversation.
My Project
Students will be able to draw and create projects of their own daily using paper and multicultural materials to reflect themselves. My students love to draw so paper is always in demand and in short supply. We need materials to reflect each child’s unique perspective and creativity.
Please help me provide paper and basic art essentials to my students to expand their interest in drawing and designing projects.
My students become very eager to express themselves through their artwork and in turn have wonderful conversations with their peers. Students complement each others’ work. These materials will help to build a strong classroom community.
