Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a nonprofit, community-based, public charter school dedicated to creating an environment that fosters high expectations and excellence for all students. In addition to valuing the knowledge of language and culture, we provide students with a clear sense of identity, a positive attitude toward learning and effective communication skills.
97% of the student population identifies as Hispanic and 78% of the population is economically disadvantaged.
My school is always looking for innovative ways to help our students succeed in school and in life.
My Project
Who doesn't love seeing brand new books on the bookshelf? Well, 7th graders do!
I am requesting new, diverse novels to add to my classroom library.
My students are interested in popular, noteworthy novels that contain social messages, and I want to update my classroom library with these titles. My students read at least 40 minutes every day, and they truly have a passion for reading. They also love discussing and recommending books to their friends. As a teacher, this is pretty cool to be a part of.
All of these titles are new and depict stories from various cultures. With these diverse topics, my students can learn different perspectives of the world and discuss them with their peers.
