Many of my students live in a home without books. Many of my students live in a home of non-readers. Many of my students come from low-income homes and do not come to school with needed supplies. Many of my students face additional hurdles than the average learner because they lack background knowledge and positive experiences in support of comprehension. Many arrive feeling disconnected from school and have set low self-expectations and have a fixed mindset. All of my students are reading below their grade level. THESE ARE MY STUDENTS! That is why I teach them. They need me. I need them.
My goal is to support my students' views of themselves as learners, provide them with background knowledge essential for success, and personalized their learning path by giving EACH of them their individual learning tools for success.
My Project
I am requesting headsets for my students. We use an AMAZING reading intervention called READ 180, that truly does turn kids' reading around. There are three main components to the program: Small-Group Instruction, Modeled & Independent Reading, and Instructional Software.
The Instructional Software component part "provides customized reading instruction and practice with individualized, adjusted support to address each student’s needs." However, headphones AND microphones are required to utilized this amazing software.
For many of these 21st Century Learners - THIS is their favorite and most engaging part of the program. With over 40 students rotating through my room each day, these headsets are an essential tool to help my students reach their reading goals.
