I am a second grade teacher in an urban school where most of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our school welcomes immigrants from many countries including Burma, Somalia, Togo, Thailand, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, etc. Ours is a school system where budgets continue to be cut. For the past ten years, I have spent my own money on school supplies which my school system cannot afford to purchase. I have been successful in writing proposals for supplies and equipment to help my students succeed. One of my prized acquisitions was a printer/scanner/fax machine which I received through a city grant about five years ago. However, I have spent a considerable amount of money on ink cartridges.

My printer is essential in so many ways. I print out worksheets, schedules, letters to parents, library book labels. The list is endless. Right now, in conjunction with a unit on Cinderella Around the World, I am creating a bulletin board with book jackets of the various Cinderella stories which will be surrounded by student work. If I had a decent supply of ink cartridges, it would save me from frequent trips to the stationery store and of course, would help financially.

By funding this project, you will help me create a print environment necessary for optimum learning. Every day, I try to help my students become the best they can be and your help in providing ink for my printer will ensure that I have the tools I need for teaching every day.

You will make it possible for me to provide individualized work for the varied needs of my students, communicate with parents and colleagues, print incentive certificates for my students, print graphs charting student growth which I can share with the students to help them make significant educational improvements.
