My 4th graders are bright and energetic. Each day they are greeted with enthusiasm and encouragement. We focus on seeing the good in others and being the reason someone smiles that day. Many are thrilled that we learn so much science and Utah history in fourth grade.
In our classroom we fill the room with laughter, hard work, and positivity.
It is my goal as an education to instill the love of learning and reading into my students. I currently do that by reading outloud and discussing books with them. I would love to do even more to get them excited though.
My Project
By 4th grade the cozy reading nooks are all but out of style in the classroom. It almost seems that the excitement of reading goes with it. I would like to create a comfortable reading area that students not only can go to during independent work time, but do get them eager about reading. This is why I am asking you to help my students for years to come have an inviting and comfortable reading nook. This will be complete with a cozy rug and low to the ground chairs for students to use. I have noticed with the modern day of technology, many students are losing their love of reading. I want to combat that with an encouraging reading area.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go"– Dr Seuss.
I want my students to be so excited about reading that they are able to transport themselves to other places through their books. The chairs that are used in this reading area can also be used as flexible seating during independent work times to give students a choice throughout the day.
