Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first-grade teacher at an inner-city school. I am privileged to work with twenty-eight amazing children who are eager to learn and use any learning tools they are given. My students have a tremendous amount of learning to do this upcoming year, and most of it happens from repetition and practice.
They like to read, participate, and ask questions!
Working as an elementary teacher in a low-income and high poverty inner-city district is challenging itself. My students face several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Whichever challenge they meet, I strive to provide my students with the creative and meaningful learning experience they deserve!
My Project
Our classroom library has a wonderful reading fiction, non fiction and picture book, books that is available for my students in our class at all time. However, my students struggle with having full access the majority of our books in an organized visual manner due to a lack of shelving for browsing the entire classroom library. My students desperately need shelving to help them browse our non-fiction, fiction and picture books collection for our readers.
With the proper shelving, students can start browsing and borrowing books on topics of interest right away and increase reading stamina!
My classroom is filled with young readers who are bursting with love and excitement for reading. Each week, my students search through our classroom library looking for great reads to read through for the upcoming week, so that they can practice their fluency, comprehension and increase their phonics skills. This is VITAL for such a lower elementary grade so they can become great powerful readers!
With these new bookshelves, it will allow for smoother movement of students as they take books on and off of the new shelves. Having this easier access of books on shelves will make a huge impact on reading.
Students will be able to go the library confidently, comfortably and excitingly than to seeing bins on the floor due to lack of shelving!
Thank you for supporting my students by knocking down the barrier to resources that is necessary for their success.
I very much appreciate your consideration in this matter and sincerely hope you will view my request favorably and provide the requisite funds.
