Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am an elementary teacher in an urban school district in Wisconsin. Currently, 100% of our students receive free lunch.

Our mission is to help students achieve high standards and increase learning opportunities for all students, preparing them to be independent thinkers and lifelong learners.

I have 20 learners in my class this year, and I'm excited to see how much we can all grow together.

My school has a focus on student-led learning through games. My students come to school excited to see what is planned for the day and look forward to the engaging lessons. With help from you, my students will have all the resources they need to be scholars.

My Project

I am fortunate to have a wonderful group of 20 third graders who love to read! We were virtual for most of last year, and my students are so excited to be back to school. I have a class full of varying races and cultures, however, I do not have nearly enough books that have characters that looks like my students. Above and beyond, representation matters! My students deserve to see children who look like them in the books that are available to them.

100% of my students receive free lunch.

Budgets are extra tight. Schools just don't have the funds to pay for "extras". That is where you come in. My students will be over the moon excited to get more books with characters that look like them in their hands. My goal is to get books in students hands as soon as possible.
