This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in a more affluent section of the city where most of the neighborhood kids attend private schools. Therefore, the majority of our student population is bused to our school from less fortunate areas of the city.
Our excellent academic reputation causes many students and parents to want to be a part of our school community but also large class sizes.
I co-teach a class of 63 second graders and unfortunately do not have enough furniture to accommodate our students. Unfortunately
because our location is considered a more affluent area, we tend to receive less funding.
My Project
An effective classroom environment is one that is conducive to learning. In order to achieve this an adequate work space where each of my students feels comfortable and productive is essential! Due to increasing class size we currently do not have enough classroom furniture to accommodate all of our students.
A new table and chairs will help create this space by providing additional work spaces for each of my students so they can have their own area to work and store their materials and supplies.
We also intend to utilize the table and chairs during center time and small group instruction.
