My Students

Our FIRST Robotics Competition Team is a 9-12 student-led FIRST Robotics Competition Team. They work in different teams to program the robot, build the robot, and learn how to maneuver and drive the robot. Many of our students come with only a love for hands-on learning as freshmen. By the time they are seniors, they are well versed in a variety of aspects of real-world problem solving and most importantly how to work collaboratively with a group in pressured situations. The students also learn the values taught by FIRST and are exposed to other activities and industries critical to the team such as business planning and marketing.

My Project

A number of our students come from low-income families and therefore aren't able to afford computers of their own. The team tries to loan laptops to those students who are passionate about learning programming so that they are able to practice and expand their knowledge. That then gets them energetic about pursuing college degrees related to programming and computer science. We also need the laptops to help control the robot during competitions. That laptop is always specialized by the programming team to provide the drivers with a number of uniquely designed status screens, logs, and even camera streams from the robot.
