Teaching second graders is the most rewarding job in the world. Each day is a new adventure. I get the privilege of helping my 20 students learn and grow at their own pace. Some of my students are learning to reading chapter books. Others are still working on reading simple three letter words. However, all of my students are motivated learners who strive to do their best on a daily basis. They have a thirst for knowledge! They will all succeed.
My Project
Many students struggle to sit in a desk to work and learn. If we are honest, many adults would find it difficult as well. That's why I have embraced the idea of flexible seating. I plan to implement this with my second graders this school year . When students are engaged in independent work, I plan to allow my students to choose their own space to work. Some students may work in a scoop chair, some may choose to work under a desk using a clipboard and others may sit on a stool at a small table.
When students are allowed to take control of their own learning, everyone benefits!
Some students struggle greatly to be still and it often interferes with their learning. At times, it can be so severe that it keeps other students from learning as well. This project will provide my students with one other option of where to work. Students will be able to focus on learning instead of trying to be still.
