My Students

I teach in a low income/high poverty area. Most of my students come from broken homes, and many have had drugs impact their lives. My goal is to make school a safe place for them, someplace where they come and know they are safe and where someone has put their best interests first.

I try to create hands-on projects that the students will enjoy.

I find that my students learn best that way. Hands-on projects help to hold my students' interests better and help them focus.

My Project

As a teacher I have been focusing on helping my students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. They have been doing wonderfully with these three things. But I also want to keep them healthy and teach them how to be more active.

Students need to be more active so they can focus on their learning.

When I ask my students, “What did you do last night?” I usually get the same answer, “I played video games.” Once the leave my classroom they become couch potatoes.

When they are in my classroom, I try to keep them moving, but I am limited at times with what I can do. I each want my students to wear the trackers for a month. I want to set a goal for them to reach 10,000 steps each day.

We can track their steps and distances. With that information we can make charts, change the distances to figure out how many yards, feet, and inches they have traveled, and also keep track of how they are feeling physically. The sky is the limit, but there is no limit to how this can help my students!
