With an increase in health problems among today's youth, I want my students to develop an interest in activities they can do for the rest of their lives. The activity I'd like to provide for my students is a walking program and they need a class set of pedometers. I am a Phys. Ed. teacher at an alternative school where most of the students have not experienced much success in their school careers. I have a number of students who do not like to participate in the group activities, and if I can implement a walking program using the pedometers, even the "non-athlete" can experience success in a P.E. class. This results in the students having fun, in turn, developing an interest in staying fit. This program could potentially benefit every student in our school. I'd like to have for my students a class set of 24 pedometers, an instructional/lesson book on using pedometers, and two carrying cases that hold 12 each. If my students don't take a serious interest in their health, then they will lose it when they get older.
