Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach the most hardworking and amazing students in a low income, inner city school, where all students receive a free lunch.

My second grade students come to school everyday with wonderful hearts and an awesome outlook on learning!

They love to read to themselves and each other. They look forward to that time when they can lose themselves in a book while seeking a comfortable place. They melt my heart everyday when they come to school and give their all despite the challenges they may face.

My Project

When I was in school, I would have benefited from a standing desk. I have students just like myself who need the flexibility and movement. The standing desks are perfect for them. Currently, we don’t have an ideal spot for them. We need new seating options to maximize our learning.

The standing desks promote movement and fidgeting which helps our brain to focus and be engaged.

Also, children who stand burn more calories than ones who sit. Everyone learns differently and this will reach the ones who do not like to sit.

My classroom uses flexible seating and I have seen a tremendous change. It makes them more engaged, focused, happy, and an all around wonderful environment to be in. These will be great additions to our class.
