My students need ukuleles. Through ukulele instruction students will learn about beat, harmony, melody, rhythm, and tempo while taking ownership of their learning by doing. Ukulele skills will help moving on to other string instruments less frustrating.
We have an absolute blast with music in my classroom. We feel it, live it, experience it, and laugh our way to success and a love of music!
All of my students are extremely bright, hilarious, and wide-eyed.
I have a great rapport with virtually all of them and we have nothing but fun learning in music class. Our elementary school is a newer 21st century school. We encourage independent deep-thinking and learning throughout our school. Their intelligence, independence, and work ethic is very apparent across content levels. It's wonderful to be able to dig deep into topics with these types of students. It truly allows for such a wider learning of music content.
My Project
I am working on obtaining a classroom set of ukuleles for my upper grade students to play. This project is a step in that direction.
Ukuleles will help students synthesize and apply music theory skills through the creativity of applying them to an instrument.
Through ukulele instruction students will learn about beat, harmony, melody, rhythm, and tempo while taking ownership of their learning by doing. The ukulele also helps students develop hand-eye coordination as well as independent movement of fingers. If students eventually want to learn the guitar or other stringed orchestra instruments in the future, starting with a ukulele often makes the process easier and less frustrating. This is especially true of my 5th graders who will be going on to middle school next year and will need to select an instrument should they choose orchestra as an extracurricular. Regardless, this is an amazing opportunity to build students' confidence in learning to play an instrument and love music in a whole new way!
