The 1,000,000 Word Challenge is off to a wonderful start. One student has already read 700,000 words! Nearly every student has reported that his or her reading has improved. It's amazing what a lot of reading can do!
Instead of waiting for Superman, my students understand the importance of reading for their future.
They will be the first in their family to go to college, and to get there, they need an excellent education.
I am proud to say that The 1,000,000 Challenge is inspiring my students to read frequently and voluminously.
My Project
The most crucial component of this program is a well-stocked classroom library. If lots of reading is the goal, we don't have time to go to the public library to check out a book. Besides, my students appreciate new things. New things say, "You are valued. You are cared about."
All the books in this project have been requested by students. In our school system, too often our students ask but do not receive. With your help, we can change that.
