My students need a Grades 1-3 Reading Comprehension Games Library.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I currently teach an inclusion class at a high poverty primary school in an urban setting. I teach all subjects of the third grade curriculum. A third of my students have IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) because they qualify for Special Education services. In third grade, learning gets kicked up a notch. It is the first year that students in Virginia take the end of the year batter of standardized testing (SOLs). My school and I try to support the diverse needs of my classroom, but severe budget cuts have limited the resources available to make learning fun.
My students, especially my special education students, have a difficult time comprehending what they read. All of my students need help practicing basic reading skills such as making inferences, sequencing, and developing their vocabularies. Some of my students are reading one or two grade levels behind their peers, but the come to school every day and give all of their effort to learning.
The games that I have chosen will make practicing reading comprehension fun. Each game targets a specific comprehension skill that many students could simultaneously practice at once. These games also provide INSTANT motivation to learn. My students will be excited to use these games during centers.
By supporting this project, you will give my students an opportunity to practice important reading comprehension skills while they are having fun! You will enable them to prepare for standardized test through multiple games. You will give them a chance to love learning!
