I teach at a specialized math and science high school in New York City. Students must take an entrance exam even though it is a public school. The students of my school are so inquisitive, and have such a drive to learn. This is evident when looking at their full schedules and packed after school activities. These are some of the best and brightest students in all of New York City, and they make going to work every day a JOY!
My Project
Next year we will be teaching AP Biology to incoming freshman! And one of the BIG IDEAS of this course is Evolution.
"Your Inner Fish" is a wonderful book that details the discovery of the Tiktaalik - the Missing Link Fossil between aquatic and terrestrial life.
Using the story of his discovery, the fossils themselves, and DNA evidence the author will make students look at themselves and our world in an illuminating new light. The book is written in such a way as to make it accessible, even to teenagers, and is told with an irresistible enthusiasm that I know will make the students even more invested in the lessons in class.
