Mrs. Day from Greenville SC is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Wait! Jack and Annie Aren't War Heroes??

My students need two class sets of Civil War on Sunday and Revolutionary War on Wednesday, to help these two important wars to SC come alive with Jack and Annie!

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book about a favorite time in history? My students are still awaiting that magical experience. With Jack and Annie, friends of ours, this experience can become a reality and change the lives of my inquisitive students.

My students are 100% poverty stricken, with only one other school in the entire state of South Carolina being in this category.

However, coming to school without supplies or reading all summer, my students are ready to learn now. Poverty does not equal failure. Failure is not an option in my classroom. As an educator, it is my duty to help my children. It is my duty to ensure more than a quality education for my children; they deserve the best. It is my duty to give them more, motivate them and grant them opportunities that they would not normally receive.

My Project

Jack and Annie are all young students favorite characters. Who wouldn't admire the young boy and girl who travel in a magical tree house to far away places in the past? My students particularly love reading books about Jack and Annie when we are learning about the topics they learn about. Therefore, I want to excite my students about both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and make these important times in South Carolina history come to life in an interesting way. With a class set of both of these novels, my students will be able to read the books as a whole class. We will be able to discuss the important events that helped shaped our state's history. We will be able to read these historical fiction novels and do an in-depth study of the genre as well as the historical impacts of different events in history. By the students holding the book in their hand as we read the adventure together, they will also have the opportunity to become better readers, writers and spellers!

By receiving donations from generous people like you, history will come to life for my students.

They will be able to experience these two critical points of time in our state's history in a unique setting. Students will be able to delve into a story that they find interesting, but will actually teach them important topics. These books will allow history to come to life and become even more exciting than just another war in history!
