This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students arrive at school every day with a love for learning. My students with disabilities are unable to communicate their feelings with others most of the time.
I teach at a Title I public elementary school in Texas where over 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged.
Several of my students receive backpack food for the weekend. In order to have success in school and in their future careers, my students need the tools to communicate their feelings and information to their peers and teachers.
My Project
My students come from diverse backgrounds and have unique, individual special needs. A few weeks ago, the physical therapist suggested that it would be very beneficial for our classroom to have a water table in order for provide water therapy for our students with disabilities.
Having water therapy readily available for our scholars would aid them in working on their fine motor skills and learning self-regulation.
The water table would be utilized regularly as part of our centers time in the morning and in the afternoon. In addition, the kinetic sand would be used on our sand table that we received second-hand from the occupational therapist. Both the sand and the water table would be valuable assets to our classroom.
