Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are lovingly known as my Wackamoles. They are identified as significant learning disabled however, when they are with me they are just kids. These students have a wide range of challenges with their ability to access reading curriculum in the classroom day to day. They might be diagnosed as dyslexic however, in my classroom their needs are individually met. These students have been with me since kindergarten and have grown so much with the supports given. The only area that they are having challenges in is their grade level classroom with their ability to access grade level reading text.
My Project
My dream for these students is to allow them access to their grade level text in the classroom. These students normally might be the ones hiding in the classroom anxious about their inability to read the text being assigned. With these tablets, I would be able to provide them a resources that they could access independently that would allow them to fully participate in the classroom. On this tablet, the students will be able to utilize the app Bookshare which is an online resource specifically for students with Individualized Education Plans. This app allows them to have any text in their classroom to be read aloud to them as they track their reading. Without this tool, these students have not been able to fully participate in their classroom environment.
