Our quaint school is nestled in the canyons, just outside of the city. We come from diverse backgrounds and cultures and therefore have a variety of educational needs. Our K-6 school has such a positive climate, and all students work on displaying a CARE-ing attitude (Courtesy, Achievement, and Responsibility).
The Kindergarteners eagerly arrive at school daily ready for hands-on learning.
This year, my scholars are working on using higher academic vocabulary and taking ownership of their learning. We are embracing the Common Core philosophy of collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication.
My Project
Kindergarten students LOVE to play! What they do not know is that through their play, they are learning important skills that will help them throughout their educational years. Students need frequent opportunities to help "show what they know." Therefore, I am asking for some new materials that will work nicely with the materials we already have in class to freshen up our "Word Work" area.
Working with words and playing with letters helps build the students' confidence in early reading and writing skills.
The students will use the letter magnets, along with white boards already in the class, to independently build our new sight words and/or word family words. We will also use the ink pads and our letter stamps to practice the words. Finally, the construction set will help students learn the shapes and formation of the capital and lowercase letters. Construction of the letters will directly impact the students' ability to form the letters correctly on paper. Word Work materials allow students to learn through their play!
