Teaching at my school for the past nine years has been the most rewarding experience of my life. We truly see every student as a future leader, with their own gifts to share. Our students come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, with over 40 different countries represented in our school.
My classroom serves nine students, ages 2-5, who receive special education services for autism and related disabilities.
They love to run, climb, create, and giggle -- and they learn through play and exploration, just like every other preschooler.
My Project
My students love toys with wheels. They love cars and trucks and trains. They love to align them, build them, and roll them. They also love to crash them and toss them, engaging in sensory and exploratory play that can be a little rough on their favorite vehicles.
These kid-tough cars are designed to live up to all the sensory and imaginary play that my preschoolers can invent!
With these larger cars, they will be able to explore force, motion, and energy. They will gain a deep understanding of size and spatial relationships -- on, off, under, in... They will be able to share their love of wheeled vehicles with their classmates and peer mentors without fear of breaking or damaging the things they love so much. These cars are designed to last all year long, which means days and weeks of learning in their favorite way.
