Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What is a Spanish immersion school? "Utah Dual Language Immersion Program uses a fifty-fifty model, in which students spend half of their school day in the target language and the other half-day in English"

My school is a Spanish immersion school so these supplies will be used by students who are learning a foreign language.

My students walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what we are going to learn today about Spain, Guatemala, Mexico or Peru. They are ready everyday to learn a new word, a new sentence which allows them to communicate with people from other countries. This allows them to be a better citizen.

Also, my school is close to an Air Force base so we teach military kids.

My students are 5th and 6th graders (63 in total). 63 active learners who are looking forward to starting a new adventure in the 21st century learning process.

My Project

The VR fits perfectly in the concept of Spanish Immersion program, which is a very visual learning system. Everything has to be support with pictures, videos or some visual representation making it easier for students to understand concept being taught (Spanish is not their native language). Is there something more visual than VR technology in which the student is completely immersed in her learning? When your students do not understand everything you say or you teach, the VR can be really helpful and will make the teaching so much easier for the immersion teachers and the learning for the students as well.

It will be a novelty in the language teaching.

The teachers have been using the VR to teach Science, Social Studies and different subjects during recent time. But what about if we could teach all of these subjects with the VR at the same time that we are teaching Spanish?

Other really important concepts in the Immersion program is the ability to solve real world problems. The VR will also help this because all of the lessons taught with the VR will be applied to the real world so much easier. Additionally, teachers can take the students wherever they want and students can know the reality of different places in the world and their problems in relation with what they just learnt.

We also have to consider that the Spanish Immersion program is not only based on learning and teaching the core instruction. It is about sharing and learning from other cultures. This part has almost the same importance that learning the core instruction, and here the VR has a capital importance. Sometimes is hard to share the culture with your students through a video or some pictures and it is even harder through a paper. Sometimes
