Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, 19 amazing students at P.S. 48 in Hunts Point, an impoverished section of The South Bronx, have been learning a non-fiction writing curriculum. So, far we have written about topics of our own choice, which has been a really fun experience. However, we are now looking for an AMAZING LEARNING EXPERIENCE, which will allow us to promote our creativity and our thinking skills, which are extremely important as we journey through the learning process. So, we plan on turning our classroom into the solar system!

We are going to take part in a comprehensive solar system unit, which will offer us an amazing new amount of information, which will allow us to have a new world of ideas to write about during out non-fiction writing curriculum. The goal of our Solar System Unit will be to study space, stars, planets, the universe, space explorations and all of the contents that involve space. As we study the world of space we will act as junior journalists as we study, research, write and publish our own magazine articles about SPACE AND THE SOLAR SYSTEM. By the end of the project each student's article will be bound together to form a class SPACE SCIENCE MAGAZINE.
In order for our Space Unit to be successful we will need many supplies such as manipulatives, posters, videos, science journals and other materials to expand our minds and allow us the opportunity for an excellent learning experience that will deepen our knowledge and understanding of the Solar System and sharpen our writing skills.
