Help me give my students Chromebooks so that they can access and work with authentic materials online in the target language, including French and francophone media websites, film archives, and interactive educational technologies.
My French 2, 4 honors and 5AP students are eager, enthusiastic and creative. They love to engage with French and francophone music, art, literature, and movies! My AVID students are a lively and close-knit group who are dedicated to achieving their full academic potential so that they can attend a four-year college. My students come from diverse cultural, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds.
My advanced French students hope to pursue careers in international settings where they must demonstrate proficiency in a world language.
Proficiency involves not only listening, speaking, reading, and writing, but also utilizing technology in the target language. French 4 honors and AP French are project-based courses that hone students' collaboration skills as they research real-world problems impacting francophone and American communities. While we often need technology to do our research, we have limited access to this technology in our public school environment.
My Project
Technology can be a powerful teaching tool. The Chromebooks will impact student learning by providing in-class access to target-language research, while facilitating collaboration through live document-sharing. Students will compose their essays and blogs, create movies or Google slideshows, and animate videos right in the classroom, while sharing their work in real-time with their group members and teacher.
Students will be able to interact with videos, websites, songs, databases, Google voice, newspapers, blogs, interactive games, and so much more.
Our world-language department currently has just 20 chromebooks that are shared by 12 full-time teachers. Our goal is to pool our resources and fill one chromebook cart so that every student in our classes of 36 can have access. Improved access to technology will open up a world of language interactions and experiences that exist beyond the confines of a standard language textbook.
