This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hi, I'm a lower elementary, Montessori-trained teacher within a public school. My students are curious, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. Many of them come from low income homes, but this doesn't stop them from coming to school with smiles on their faces. I am proud to be a part of an urban school district that offers Montessori education as an option to all families. It is amazing to see how my students can progress academically through this hands-on approach to learning.
My Project
This project includes five guided reading sets on the following scientific topics: weather, space, the human body, animals, and life cycles.
Science vocabulary readers will add variety to the reading materials my students use in their quest to be better scientists and readers.
All of the sets in this project are part of the Scholastic Science Vocabulary series, which means that they are all formatted in the same way. Each book includes a table of contents, four short chapters, diagrams, maps, captions, a glossary, and comprehension questions. The uniform formatting will help my readers gain confidence in reading about scientific topics with words that might be a little more challenging than they are used to.
In addition to using these books in my classroom, my students will be able to use them with the classroom support specialists who work one-on-one and in small groups with my students. They will also use them during our Reading Buddies time when my students read to pre-K and Kindergarten students.
