Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 21st century citizens of the world. They don't come to school each day to answer multiple choice questions or copy sentences from the board. They come to solve problems, create beauty, collaborate, and develop innovative ideas. My students seek to make our world a better place through gathering knowledge and sharing knowledge. They come to school with enthusiasm and put their critical thinking skills to work for themselves and each other every day. Together we are all working to a big, bright, beautiful tomorrow.
My Project
This year my students used Omnfix cubes to understand volume like always, but my box is getting low. Many are broken or have gotten lost over the years. I didn't have enough for each student to use. They needed to share and couldn't build all the prisms we needed to.
Volume is an essential standard in fifth grade, and students need to pack boxes and stack blocks to create prisms in order to visualize and understand the big ideas behind volume.
So I need to refill and update my old and broken materials. I need more new Omnifix cubes, and I don't have any centimeter cubes. My students also need graph paper to help with problem solving.
