This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What words come to mind when you think of high school students?
Resilient, leaders, fearless, advocates, youth organizers - all words that describe my amazing 9th grade students!
While many of my students do overcome challenges on a daily basis (poverty, violence, homelessness, etc.), they still strive every day to make the world a better place. They have learned to use their voice to change their community and change the world.
My students are dedicated and need the tools to be successful in high school and beyond. Despite everything they go through, many of them will be the first in their families to graduate high school and go on to college.
My Project
In addition to teaching English, I am also the head varsity volleyball coach for my school.
Many girls come to high school having never played volleyball before and not having enough equipment is hindering their progress.
During most practices, we will have around 40 players and about 10 volleyball. By getting more volleyballs for the team and getting volleyball carts to house them in, more players will be able to get their hands on a ball at practice. Since so many players are learning how to play for the first time, this will be a huge asset for our team.
When we are practicing serving, players will all have their own ball to practice with instead of having to wait until all of the other players are finished. Also, by having the carts to store them in (one for varsity and one for JV), we will be able to store them better and not lose any during the season.
Please consider helping my team step-up to their highest level.
