My students need volleyballs as we bring back our school volleyball team. The team has been in “retirement” for 6 years and all of the balls have been worn or destroyed by the P.E classes.
Our charter school family has a high percentage of free and reduced-price lunch students, meaning that a majority of our kids our at poverty level. With 86 percent of our student body falling into this category, it is very important to expose the students to all fitness related activities. We are creating tomorrow's leaders!
Being a smaller school, we do not have lots of funding coming in; in fact, we receive no local funding and only state and federal money.
It is important for us, as educators, to reach out for supplies to better educate our kids.
My Project
Our school does not have a gym, so our P.E classes and recess times are held outside. Since the volleyball team has not been functional for the last six years, the P.E kids have used their balls and they have become worn or destroyed over the years. Our students are already at a disadvantage because they practice on an outdoor net in the field instead of on an indoor court. New balls would be a great start as we build our season and our team! We are requesting six balls so that we can utilize our time wisely and run multiple drills at once letting our athletes have more touches on the ball.
