This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are looking to improve their athleticism, peer bonding, and school pride through volleyball. We spend our time learning basic drills and rotations for competitive play. The girls are eager to learn more and more each day.
Our school is a Title I school which is considered high poverty.
For most, volleyball is their only extracurricular activity. Volleyball gives them life skills that they may not have acquired at this point in life such as teamwork and perseverance.
My Project
I am the coach of a middle school volleyball team in a southwest suburb of Chicago. With limited funds for our athletic teams, we need help to fund our volleyball team uniforms.
New volleyball shorts will provide our team with the confidence and pride they need to perform their best.
Last year, some of our players were unable to play because they did not have proper volleyball shorts. Our girls are very excited to start their season and they need to look the part. Having a full uniform will give these girls one less thing to worry about so they can focus on their skills.
