Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been coaching volleyball at Desert Hot Springs High School for the last 6 years. I have an amazing and talented group of hard-working young student-athletes. These Kids work so hard to give it their all, both on and off the court. They would greatly benefit from the needed equipment. Without the proper equipment to teach them important skills, they won’t be able to advance their knowledge and skills to the next level. My student-athletes come from low-income households and are unable to contribute in a monetary fashion, and that is why I instill volunteer hours within my program to help out within our community.
My Project
The use of new equipment for my students will benefit them on every level as an athlete. Our current equipment is over 6 years old and is worn out from usage. We currently have 10 volleyballs to use between JV and Varsity levels, and that’s not enough to run the needed and proper drills to increase the student-athletes’ knowledge and skills for the sport of volleyball.
Without proper and up to date equipment, student-athletes won’t be able to advance their skills.
Student-athletes learn valuable skills both on and off the court that benefits them in every aspect of being a student.
