The school I teach at caters to young women in Los Angeles, grades 6-12, who are interested in pursuing a career in a STEM field. The school hopes to empower these young women to be leaders in STEM fields. The students come from over 80 different zip codes in Los Angeles and are a culturally and socioeconomically diverse group.
We just completed our first season of having a CIF volleyball team and the students won their division championship!
I am so excited to get to teach the students both on the court and in the classroom.
My Project
Sports are more than an opportunity for students to play a game that they love. As student athletes, kids learn leadership, communication, perseverance, growth mindset, teamwork, and so much more!
Our GALA volleyball team, in it's first year of having a program, managed to win the Los Angeles Division 4 Championships!
We experienced quite a season with many challenges and so much growth. We started with no gym and no net and despite this, the players came together and grew as a team.
The materials will help me to better coach these players to reach their full potential as athletes and as volleyball players. The setter ball will help us to train new setters so that our JV program can learn more offensive skills and the boxes will help improve everyone's speed and vertical jump to become better servers and attackers.
