These students come from very poor communities where feeling success is not normal. They have always felt like life for them is an uphill battle and for many, they give up. Our student-athletes embrace these challenges and strive to be the best they can. They lead by example and maintain the highest level of academic integrity.
These students are grasping for something to care about; they are eager to take interest in something and escape their hardships.
Sports can become the outlet for our urban students that keeps them in school.
My Project
At COAH, we are part of the MCSAO league. We really struggle to compete with some of the Boston schools because we lack resources. These resources would help us use our budget for other items scholars need. The students at our school would use these volleyballs, pinnies, flag football belts, and knee pads to help them be the best student-athletes they can be.
After a year filled with change and struggle to start the 18-19 SY with the appropriate resources for success would mean so much to our students.
Keeping our students in high school and eventually getting them into college is our number one mission. Team sports can serve as a great motivator for this.
