This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a fabulous group of 66 middle school students in Baltimore City. We are a small charter school with an even smaller operating budget. So this is where you come in!
Our school is special because the teachers, not the district, create their own curriculum.
This means that we do not teach from textbooks, but rather through historical fiction, primary source historical documents, and non-fiction documents to learn about history and to make literature come alive!
We are special because we use a variety of media to learn and display our learning. Also, our instruction is differentiated.
My Project
The requested books will eagerly be gobbled up into the hands of next year's students. Books such as Good Master, Sweet Ladies, Voices from a Medieval Village, and Concrete Poems will help students learn from different voices of adversity to create poetry that exhibits their own adversity.
Books such as A Long Walk to Water and Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass will encourage students to become advocates for social change.
Your donation ensures that EVERY student gets their own book to read in school and to take home to read at night. Your generous donation will go toward making sure that every student can be advocates for social change while reading books that have characters that represent who they are.
