This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Due to learning challenges, my student cannot express himself in writing in a way that other people can understand, and although he is very curious, he cannot use the Internet as a research tool because his inability to spell makes it impossible to use the Internet independently.

My student is in 8th grade and will be entering high school next year.

He is very bright and curious, but he is becoming more and more frustrated by his inability to express himself or complete progressively more complex writing tasks. He has responded well to a simple voice recognition spelling app that we recently downloaded.

My Project

Learning how to use voice recognition software should help my student to complete classroom writing assignments, to express his own thoughts in writing, to use e-mail, and to use the Internet independently. Using the voice recognition software will also support continued interventions to improve his independent writing skills.

I think providing this support will be life-changing for my student.

He will be starting high school in about nine months, and I hope to send him off from middle school with a tool that will make his landing into high school much softer.
