My students need voice and choice within the classroom! I am redesigning my classroom to allow for more flexible seating choices. Just like our backgrounds, our seating and workspace preferences differ from one another.
The learners in my classroom come from diverse backgrounds. Russian, English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic are spoken by students within our classroom community. We are not only diverse in our backgrounds, we are also diverse in our needs as learners!
Third graders are eager to take ownership of their learning!
As these students enter into the upper elementary grade levels, they develop more independence and confidence in their personal learning journey. I aim to provide my students with a personalized experience within the classroom to best fit their diverse needs as learners and individuals.
My Project
Flexible seating options in my classroom will allow my students to take ownership of their learning. Students will be able to explore and discover a workspace that makes sense for them! I am shifting from a traditional classroom model to one that is more versatile and kid-friendly.
Various seating options will allow my students to be more engaged in their activities and investigations within the classroom.
What works for some, doesn't work for others! My partner teaching and I want to stay innovative as we make the shift to a completely student-centered classroom. I want to encourage my students to make a seating option that suits them the best, where they are allowed to learn and focus to their highest potential. We are in need of wiggle stools and floor seating options.
These desired stools will directly benefit my learners that like to wiggle while they learn. Some students like to work closer to the floor, and will appreciate the use of a lap desk to utilize as a hard, working surface. The Disc "o" Sit cushions add an extra cushion (and wiggle element) to floor seating. This flexible design model is a win-win for all! Thank you for providing these seating options for my diverse classroom and our day-to-day experience within it!
