Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a high school life skills program in Chicago. Being a neighborhood school, and over 80% Hispanic and 20% African American, these students are often overlooked.
My classroom serves 26 students with autism and other intellectual disabilities.
My students work on both academic and life skills, in hopes of becoming more independent in their future. Though they might act, look, and learn differently; they deserve every opportunity to receive the best education possible. Thank you in advance for making a difference in my classroom.
My Project
A Life Skills classroom is intended to prepare students for life beyond the classroom. I want to prepare all of my students for future employment. Many of my students have expressed interest in working in the retail and food industry.
I am asking for equipment to create an authentic grocery store, restaurant, and bank inside our classroom!
Students will be able practice stocking shelves, taking orders, customer service skills and so much more! These vocational skills will help my students to focus on the tasks, use their time wisely, follow directions and interact with fellow students and faculty. Support inclusion in the workplace!
