Help me give my students strong vocational skills through our school store. The iPad will allow our students to access an inventory program, and use as a cash register to check customers out.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” -Francis of Assisi
There are some students that you teach, and guide into great success, but then there are some students that teach you and help you become the best version of yourself.
The students that I work with may have their difficulties, but they come to school each day to try and strive towards becoming a better person.
I work in a therapeutic day school that serves students a varied of disabilities. The students that I work directly with have both emotional and intellectual disabilities and my other students are on the autism spectrum. Most of my students come from low-income to poverty stricken homes. From birth, they were given a more difficult hand in life than me, but each day they come to school with the willingness to learn and a positive attitude towards everyone they meet, which is truly inspiring.
The days may not be perfect, but as one of my students stated once, "You have to come to school, that is where you learn."
My Project
My students struggle with life skills, most students with intellectual disabilities and autism struggle to hold down a job when they get older. Unfortunately, for my students with intellectual disabilities, they sometimes find work on the street to make money. I need to teach my students the skills they need to hold down a real job when they are older. We have a school store that the students work shifts in. In the store, they learn customer service skills, stocking, and cash register skills.
The iPad will expand the skill areas that I can teach my students.
They will work inventory with the iPad, as well as use it as a more updated cash register. My students will be able to use it as a time clock to practice punching in and out. Some of these skills may seem mundane to you, but my students do not possess any of the skills they would need for a job. They need to be taught these skills to have a successful life. Most of my students stay in school until they are 22 years old, after they are 18 most of their day consists of vocational work. For them to get the most out of the vocational work, the work must mirror what a job would look like now. All of our supplies are so old, an iPad is a current technology; it is something that they may find similar at a job today.
