My students live in Gilbert, AZ and attend a Title I school. They are all from different backgrounds and have many different challenges they face daily. I strive to make school their safe place, where they feel confident and successful.
Each of my students are eager to learn, but how they learn varies greatly.
I do my best to incorporate a variety of learning strategies to make sure all students' needs are met. Many students do not have the supplies or resources they need to finish their school work at home.
My students are incredible and deserve the best. I am so thankful I get to be the one to make a difference in their lives.
We have recently adopted a new ELA program which emphasizes vocabulary. We learn at least five new words each and are creating their own ELA journals where they can access these new words easier.
My students are currently using over fifteen year old dictionaries that are missing pages, covers, and are falling apart.
Many times, I have to just give them the definition due to the lack of resources in my classroom. Many of my students do not have internet access at home, so taking home school dictionaries is essential to get homework done. Learning how to use a dictionary is an important skill.
I'm requesting a classroom set of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionaries. New dictionaries will help my students focus on their vocabulary work and not worry about if the dictionary is missing the page that the word is on.
