Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A low demographic, high refugee population and a big heart with an excitement for learning. My students come to us from all over the world and work harder than any other students I have had in the past. Some of our students have never been in a classroom setting before they stepped foot onto our campus. They are wide-eyed and filled with the excitement of being allowed an education in America. I am honored to be their teacher and privileged to teach as well as learn from them as they make their journey to successful adults.
My Project
My middle school students need learning tools that are at a lower level than general education students. My students are learning English and using the Dictionaries and Thesauri provided by my school is in ineffective way to teach my students. Because they are learning English, the 8th Grade level Dictionary provided is too high of a level for them and they do not have the appropriate vocabulary level to understand the definitions.
Having lower level dictionaries and thesaurus will improve comprehension and vocabulary for my students by allowing them to increase their knowledge and understanding at their level.
My students work hard to increase their vocabulary, and love to use new words. Having the appropriate tools gives them the ability to increase their vocabulary and allow them the confidence to explore and increase their English word use.
