My students need vocabulary and math materials to help them close their learning gaps. These vocabulary and math materials will provide them with the hands on practice they need to develop their independent skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is so proud of it's inaugural class of 5th graders! Our 5th grade students from East Elmhurst, Corona, and Jackson Heights have helped us open our doors and start our first school year off right. Our school is an inclusive school which includes students of all ability levels. Our school currently provides co-taught classrooms, small group learning opportunities, Speech Therapy, and social supports. Each day, we are differentiating to meet the needs of students who are diagnosed with a disabilities, students who are gifted and talented, and students performing on grade level.
Our teachers and administration believe that "Inclusion is a philosophy that embraces the idea that everyone has something of value to contribute and that everyone has a right to belong."
Through our inclusion program, students are exposed to a rigorous curriculum created for them based on their individual needs. Together, our Students Supports Team has created an environment which allows students to take risks and learn from their mistakes. Currently, our students are pushing themselves to learn independent and team problem solving strategies which will help them reach success both in their academic and social life.
My Project
91% of students at FPA speak a different language in their home then in school. While many of my students are fluent English speakers, they are constantly trying to learn English vocabulary which will allow increase their reading comprehension. The Match and Sort Vocabulary Quickies - Gr. 4-5 and the In Context Academic Vocabulary Card Gr 4-5 will allow peer tutor groups to conduct independent study groups and sessions on a daily basis.
5th graders are also working incredibly hard to understand how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions.
These concepts are complex and require visual representations to help students truly understand the meaning behind these operations. The Building Fractions Activity Center will give students the opportunity to truly understand the meaning behind fractions and how to manipulate them.
