My school is a progressive, diverse elementary school dedicated to educating the whole child. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over a third of the class coming from economically disadvantaged families.
My class consists of two groups of 3rd graders actively involved in learning how to become excellent readers and writers.
Each student is a complex individual with a variety of learning styles, skills, and needs. I strive to provide a classroom that is a safe, engaging place to learn! One way I reach this goal is to give students a variety of seating and work area options. Technology is another way to engage my wonderful students.
My Project
Vocabulary is a crucial part of third grade students' academics. Research shows that students need systematic vocabulary instruction to improve their overall academic performance. The materials I have requested will aid my students in the process of learning vocabulary.
One of the key indicators of students' success in school, on standardized tests, and indeed, in life, is their vocabulary!
The binder covers and bindings will be used to construct vocabulary notebooks where students will record tier 2 vocabulary words and apply their own explanations of the words. Students will also draw pictures or symbols to represent each word. This is crucial to for students to represent their understanding of the new vocabulary terms. This make the words more meaningful for students. The colored paper will be used to create games which engage students at a high level and have a powerful effect on students' recall of vocabulary terms.
