Help me give my students access to visuals to support calendar learning and to promote awareness of the days of the week, the weather, and multicultural holidays.
As a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, I am part of an educational and therapeutic team who plays a major role in helping children with autism learn to communicate and engage with other people. Many of the students I work with are non-verbal or present with limited verbal expression. The students on my caseload work with PECS (picture exchange cards), dynamic display communication device, and other non-verbal communication tools to replace or supplement their communication skills.
Each student with autism and developmental delays is unique with individual needs and capable of learning.
Curious and enthusiastic; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge.
Each student has their own set of interests. Whether it be dance shows, music, sports teams, or disney characters.
My Project
I am requesting calendars and laminating paper. This visual calendar for students with autism is the perfect way to start every day! Students will first orient themselves with the day, month, date, and year. Laminating paper will allow me to create adapted books for students that are durable and meaning to children on the autism spectrum.
Students will give a weather report, as well as expressing how they are feeling.
Non-verbal students can point to the weather while verbal students can verbalize their answers. Visual calendars have icons and words, so they can be used by a wide variety of cognitive levels.
