Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are smart, funny, aspiring high school students who also have a visual impairment. My job as their Teacher of the Visually Impaired is to prepare them for life after high school by providing appropriate technology to level the playing field with their peers.
The use of technology for students with a visual impairment creates active learners who are in control of their own visual needs.
One way we have achieved this is through the use of iPads. iPads are wonderful tools for students with visual impairments because they have an array of accessible features and apps that organize, enlarge and simplify assignments to meet the students' needs. I was lucky enough to have the received four iPads from out district, but the students need a case and Bluetooth keyboard to optimize the use of this technology in their classrooms.
I am asking for four iPad cases with Bluetooth keyboards to provide my students with technology that will allow them to complete their school work with greater ease and propel them into the future.
My Project
With new iPad cases and Bluetooth keyboards, my students will be able to put their typing skills to use which they have been working hard to improve. Students will be able to use the iPads to see the white boards in their classroom, and use the keyboard cases to take effective notes, complete class work and keep their work organized.
Students who are visually impaired deserve every opportunity to use appropriate technology that will enable them to work hard on the curriculum and not at seeing the curriculum.
These cases and keyboards will enable students to get their work done at a similar pace as their peers and provide control over their education.
