My students need a class projector to learn and practice the skills of writing, reading, listening, and speaking in English. A class projector would allow my students to visualize the power of language, rhetoric, and voice.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are incredible individuals who are fighting every day to get an education and a better life. One thing they all have in common is that they are currently in their first or second year of living here in the United States. All of them arrived from Central America. They come from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. The student's age ranged from 15 to 19. For these reasons, the classroom feels diverse, challenging, and passionate.
The students are passionate about one thing; they want to learn English.
This is their main goal that makes them wake up early and go to school. They are always looking for ways to show how much English they know. The classroom feels energetic and passionate because they support each other in their learning. This is a challenging environment for me as a teacher because it challenges my practice. Above all, these students are inspiring and admirable. Regardless of all the sacrifices they had to make to get to the United States, they dream to become bilingual English speakers in the near future.
My Project
Newcomer students who are learning English and acculturation to the United States need visual examples to engage with a new language. The class projector will illustrate examples of powerful writing and speech. The class projector will be important to start the class. At the beginning of class, students will get an overview of our day, week, and semester. The projector will also synthesize important messages about school events and resources.
For English Language Learners, it is essential to visualize the power of language through media.
Students apply the skills of observation, analysis, inquiring, and inferring to media texts. We would be looking at movies, speeches, and other video clips to learn about historical events. We would also look at examples of debates and speeches. The final project would be a debate. Students need to watch for examples of speaking styles in order to find their voice and prepare for their debate.
The class projector will give us a lense on how language has been used during important historical events that affect us today.
