My students need a document camera and LCD Projector to take full advantage of the visuals that are presented in class, which help to enrich the learning experiences.

"Discovery" is the word that describes a typical day in our classroom. Each day we are discovering something new, or expanding our knowledge of something previously learned. Labs can be as simple as exhaling into a beaker of bromothymol blue to view the effects of carbon dioxide in cell respiration.
Our school is comprised of 98% African American students.
I teach a group of diverse learners who are energetic and inquisitive. My students are "future scientists." Each day I encourage them by telling them that one or more of them will find cures for diseases like cancer and diabetes. They enjoy reading about scientific phenomena and conducting lab experiments to test their hypotheses. These students come from low-income and impoverished homes. They attend an urban neighborhood school that is not afforded the luxury of having available instructional resources such as overhead projectors, lab equipment, books, computers, audio/visual equipment such as Visual Digital Presenters and LCD Projectors. Limited resources have not thwarted their desire to learn and do their best because the teachers are resourceful and creative. They have dreams and aspirations like many students around the world. I am here to try to help them realize their dreams and individual potential.
The Elmo Digital Presenter will allow the students to visualize scientific specimens as a group. It will help to reinforce whole group learning/lecture/demonstrations. These tools will bring specimens, photos, text and other visuals up close; especially when there are limited quantities. The LCD Projector will allow me the opportunity to make a more vivid and colorful impact when using the diagrams, photos and PowerPoint presentations that I create to cater to the visual learners. These tools will allow me to manipulate the specimens during whole group demonstrations, while allowing the students to take notes and diagram special features from the specimen. Visuals, lecture, tactile and kinesthetic learning experiences each work together to enrich the overall learning.
The Elmo Digital Camera and the LCD Projector will assist me with increasing the visual aspects of learning in our classroom.
Enriching concepts with vivid, colorful pictures and diagrams allow students to view these in 3-D instead of flat, black and white images on paper. I believe that these tools will help to further stimulate the student's interests in the Sciences and push them to pursue careers in various science fields so that they will one day become scientists.
